After Bill Stone, a house painter, tore his right leg meniscus in 2015, he lived with chronic knee pain for a year or more, including a period of time when he was unable to work or even walk. A cortisone shot relieved his pain for a short time only. When a patient of Peter Loescher, MD, talked about the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection therapy he was receiving at APD, Bill made an appointment.
“I liked Peter right away,” Bill said. “He’s got a great bedside manner. He’s an athlete, like me, and he doesn’t talk over your head.”
Bill began treatment around 2017. “Dr. Loescher cautioned me that you don’t get instant results with PRP, and the healing process can be long,” Bill said. “About six months later, I realized I had less pain. It has worked for me.”
As of Spring 2024, Bill is still receiving PRP injections and is feeling great. He says the treatments allow him to avoid surgery, which is one of his goals as a patient.
Dr. Loescher also treats Bill’s left knee for a previous knee injury with an injection called Orthovisc. Bill said this has helped him avoid a knee replacement. He’s back on his feet, working daily at his painting business, and getting exercise on a stationary bike and by doing light walking.
He travels regularly from Montpelier, Vermont to receive treatments at APD. “It works for me, and it’s worth it.” Bill said. “I have only good things to say about the team – Vicki Braley, Tabitha Ferranti, RN, and Heidi McClellan. I recommend Dr. Loescher 1000%. He’s knowledgeable, he’s a great guy, and he doesn’t waste your time.”
