Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (APD), a member of Dartmouth Health, is proud to recognize John (JT) Thibodeau Jr., BSN, RN, as the hospital’s first recipient of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. This honor, presented by The DAISY Foundation, celebrates nurse leaders who create an environment where compassionate, skillful care thrives.
For over 20 years, The DAISY Foundation has recognized the extraordinary care nurses provide to patients and families. The DAISY Nurse Leader Award was created to honor those in nursing leadership roles, including managers, directors, chief nursing officers, and others, who foster a culture of trust, respect, and professional development while advocating for their teams. Nominations come from staff members who witness firsthand the impact these leaders have on patient care and team morale.
At APD, JT’s leadership has set the foundation for an environment where clinical excellence and compassionate care go hand in hand. As the manager of multiple clinical areas, his dedication, empathy, and unwavering support have made a lasting impact on both patients and staff.
“JT is a leader who truly listens and values every member of the team,” said one of his colleagues. “He leads with kindness and respect, always making sure that we feel supported and heard.”
Another team member shared, “His ability to stay calm and solution-focused, even in the most challenging situations, makes a huge difference. He brings a sense of stability and encouragement that lifts everyone around him.”
JT is known for his ability to navigate even the most challenging situations with grace and professionalism. Whether addressing patient concerns, supporting staff, or resolving operational challenges, his leadership fosters teamwork, trust, and a strong sense of community. He not only encourages professional growth within his team but also ensures that every interaction, whether with a patient, colleague, or visitor, is one of understanding and compassion.
“I am grateful for JT’s leadership at APD,” said Paula Seaman, MSN, DA, RN, CENP, Chief Nursing Officer. “His professionalism, visibility, and pride in his team shine through every day, along with his wonderful sense of humor!”
The DAISY Nurse Leader Award recognizes that leaders play a critical role in shaping the culture of healthcare teams by advocating for staff, ensuring quality care standards, and fostering a supportive work environment. At APD, JT exemplifies this leadership every day, and we are honored to celebrate his impact on our hospital and community
About The DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by his family after he passed away in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses during his illness inspired the creation of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a program that now honors nurses and nurse leaders worldwide.
